Frequently Asked Questions

Read our list of frequently asked questions – FAQs – that will answer everything from what is Enviroswim ES3 to why you should say no to chlorine and more.

The Enviroswim ES-3 sanitises water without adding chemicals, except for pH balancing requirements. Using a powerful combination of silver and copper electrodes, ionization and ultrasonics, the system eliminates algae and pathogens from your pool and leaves you with pure, clean water.
Copper is a widely used algaecide. Silver is a long established anti-bacterial agent.
Pool water also requires oxidising to maintain clarity. For oxidisation we use a combination of electronic oxidisation and ultrasonics.
The ES3 is simpler, less harmful, less expensive to maintain and more effective than conventional chlorine-based swimming pool systems.
The ES3:

  • Kills pathogens in water that chlorine doesn’t
  • Significantly reduces chemical usage
  • Eliminates chemical odours
  • Eliminates the need to add chlorine
  • Increases equipment life
  • Reduces energy costs

The ES3 system has patents granted or pending in Australia, USA, Europe and Asia. In tests run in Australia and the USA, the ES3 has been proven to be far more effective in eliminating bacteria, parasites and algae from water than chlorine.

In May 2009 the ES3 system was granted NSF 50 certification in the USA.

For NSF certification products must pass stringent tests, which include microbiological efficacy, reliability, safety and pool surface stain resistance.

Yes. The ES3 has a 2 Year warranty. All warranty support is provided in New Zealand with manufacturer backup.

The ES3′s only consumables are the metal electrodes. Usage depends on pool size and design. A typical domestic pool in New Zealand will require replacement every 15-24 months. email your requirements to sales@enviroswim.co.nz

The electrodes are an alloy mix of Copper and Silver, so the right proportions are always being released at the same time. Whenever the Copper-ion level is correct, the Silver-ion level will be in range also. The copper test kit that comes with the system is an easy way to check the levels.

The danger comes from chemical by-products in chlorinated water known as
trihalomethanes, or THMs. When swimming, your body absorbs the harmful THMs threefold, through the skin, inhaling and ingestion. The ES3 was developed to eliminate people’s exposure to the hazards of chlorine in pools, spas and water features. The growing list of serious health issues associated with exposure to chlorinated water is now overwhelming. We encourage you to do your own research.

  • Fantastic Water to swim in
  • Simple to operate
  • Reduces all associated costs including energy, chemical and equipment replacement
  • Eliminates most of the regular consumables including salt, chlorine, hydrogen peroxide and stabiliser
  • Freshwater prolongs life of all equipment and reduces staining and corrosion on pool surface, fixtures, glass fencing, landscaping and outdoor stainless steel kitchens. For indoor pools reduces structural corrosion
  • Residual sanitiser and algaecide last for weeks, ensuring you will never come home to a green pool
  • Works with all types of pumps and filters
  • Health & environmental benefits
  • Eliminates most chemicals known to cause serious health issues
  • Non irritating to skin and eyes
  • Beneficial for asthmatics, psoriasis and eczema sufferers
  • Pool and backwash water can be recycled without diluting for use in gardens, holding tanks, and grey water systems. (subject to local council regulations)

Assurance benefits:

  • The ES3 system is the only Australian water purification system to have obtained world-renowned industry accreditation
  • Unique, patented technology, designed with government support in Australia
  • Independently verified by NATA certified laboratories here and overseas

No. Copper is an essential element, necessary in various proteins and enzymes. Balance studies on adults suggest an essential daily intake of 1-5 mg. The copper level at which the Enviroswim system operates is only 30% of the maximum recommended Queensland drinking water concentration. You would need to ingest between 3 – 15 litres of pool water to get the recommended daily intake of copper. The copper concentration in the Enviroswim backwash water contains less copper than the wastewater from some household municipal water suppliers. The silver content is also well below drinking water guidelines. The quality of the enviroswim treated water has been compared with the New Zealand drinking water standards and Hazardous Substances and Noxious Organisms (HSNO) regulations.

Chlorides in pool water will produce some chlorine through the process of electrolysis while passing through the Enviroswim treatment cell. To minimise this reaction, Enviroswim uses freshwater that is very low in dissolved salts and solids. It also eliminates the requirement to add stabiliser (sunblock), another chemical of concern, designed to hold the chlorine in the water for longer. So the amounts of chlorine created by the system are minimal and quickly dissipated. The freshwater feel is immediately evident when entering Enviroswim water and is the number one feedback we get from new customers.

Yes, the Enviroswim System is used in some of the world’s most innovative and eco-friendly spas and resorts in the world. Every pool is different and you should engage directly with Envisowim about the specific requirements for your pool.

The salt chlorinator, while often marketed as a better alternative to chlorine, actually creates chlorine to sanitise the pool. Enviroswim does not rely on maintaining a high level of chlorine for sanitising.

Only at copper levels in excess of 1ppm and with elevated pH. The ES3 system operates at 0.25-0.4ppm. If the system is unattended for some time (more than a month) and not set appropriately you might have some staining. Copper staining is easily removed and does not require emptying the pool. Citric acid is a commonly used pool stain remover and causes no permanent damage. With this as with any other concerns you may have, please get in touch with us and we can answer any questions in greater detail.

The swimming pool industry, like many industries, is resistant to change. Vested interests and a traditional mindset mean that outdated technologies and products dominate the market. Pool builders may have agreements and incentives in place with suppliers to promote a particular brand, in these circumstances what they are recommending to you is often more for their benefit than yours. Some products are involved in schemes that mean excessive margins at great cost to the end customers, Fortunately for pool owners, attitudes are beginning to change.  Pool builders in Australia, New Zealand and the USA are embracing the Enviroswim system. These builders are learning that the ES3 easy to install, simple to commission and unlike salt and chlorine the Enviroswim System does not damage pool surfaces or  equipment. Get your pool builder to contact us directly and we will do our best to address their concerns.

Our system can be easily retrofitted to existing pools. We do not need to replace your pump/filter etc. A comprehensive installation guide is available which will enable you to do the installation yourself or we can fit it on your behalf. We also have an extensive range of installers across New Zealand. If you look at the how-to video, you can tell which way you want to go. Or get in touch. We are happy to advise.

Some simple tests on your existing water will determine wether it is suitable or needs to be replaced.

Enviroswim starts to pay for itself from the moment you turn it on. You save money on chemicals, on electricity, on consumables. And because the system is so easy to run, you save a lot of time and hassle.

Also, consider the overall value of Enviroswim. You get three processes in one that allows you to achieve water that is so pure, you can use it to water your plants. It causes no damage to your surfaces, your equipment and your furniture. It does no harm to the environment. What price can you put on that?

Every pool is different. It depends on the size of the pool, the climate, the number of bathers etc. Feedback and research have shown that for an average domestic pool (60,000 litres) savings of around $950 a year can be expected.
